Keith Betteridge, AgResearch
RSNZ Manawatu February 2014 meeting
7.30 pm Tuesday, 18 February 2014, Te Manawa – Art Gallery, 326 Main Street, Palmerston North
Mr Keith Betteridge of AgResearch Grasslands will give a presentation on nitrogen leaching issues in New Zealand and how this led to the development of a cow urine sensor. The sensor quantifies urine volume and urinary nitrogen concentration of grazing animals. He will then give a brief outline of an animal collar that is under development. This collar will enable some cows in the herd to measure pasture biomass and report data via cloud computing back to the farmer’s smart phone in near-real time. Both the urine sensor and the cow collar will assist farmers in managing their enterprise for improved efficiency and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
All warmly welcome
